Kid Power, Inc. inspires youth leadership by promoting academic advancement, physical and emotional wellness, and positive civic engagement in underserved communities throughout the District of Columbia.
Co-Founders Max Skolnik and Caroline Sholl had a vision that young people could become agents of positive change in their communities which led to the launch of Kid Power in March 2002.
Kid Power is the only nonprofit expanded learning program offering a three-pronged approach to helping hundreds of underserved DC students succeed academically, empowering them to become engaged leaders and responsible citizens, and fostering healthy living through school gardens and community markets. Kid Power operates four interconnected programs that include comprehensive, innovative, approaches that engage students, resulting in achieved academic proficiency, positive social-emotional growth, and increased civic engagement through evidence-based strategies such as hands-on instruction, mentorship and small group instruction, school-day alignment, family engagement, and differentiated instruction and preparation for career and life.
Kid Power students work every day to build a stronger, healthier, and more resilient District.
