SeeHer is a coalition of marketers, agencies, and media companies committed to increasing the representation and accurate portrayal of all women and girls in marketing, media, and entertainment to reflect culture and transform society.
The movement launched in 2016 by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) in partnership with The Female Quotient (The FQ) in Washington DC at the United State of Women. To help marketers benchmark success, SeeHer spearheaded the development of the Gender Equality Measure® (GEM®), the first research methodology that quantifies gender bias in ads and programming. GEM® proves that content portraying females accurately increases purchase intent and brand reputation. Winning the prestigious ESOMAR Research Effectiveness Award, the methodology became the global industry standard. To help eliminate bias from the onset of the creative process, SeeHer created a series of (4) #WriteHerRight guides. In 2019 the movement expanded into verticals to address biases in music (SeeHer Hear Her); sports (SeeHer in Sports), followed by health (SeeHer Health) in 2022.
