The New Mexico Museum of Space History (NMMSH) is a leading space exploration museum and planetarium headquartered in Alamogordo, New Mexico, U.S. The mission of the museum is to educate the people of New Mexico and our visitors from around the world in the history, science, and technology of space. It holds some of space exploration's most prized artifacts and discoveries as well as commemorates New Mexico's role as a global powerhouse in space travel.
Founded in 1976, the museum campus facility includes: the Museum of Space History, International Space Hall of Fame, John P. Stapp Air & Space Park, Daisy Track, Clyde W. Tombaugh Education Center, New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium, Astronaut Memorial Garden, and Hubbard Space Science Research Building. The museum is the designated archive for New Mexico’s Spaceport America, the world’s first commercial spaceport. It is also the birthplace of the New Mexico Space Trail, 52 historic sites showcasing the state's rich history of astronomy, space defense, and astronaut training.
The New Mexico Museum of Space History Commission leads the organization, appointed by the Governor of New Mexico. It is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. A Smithsonian Affiliate, the museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).
