OUR MESSAGE “Making Tahlequah funnier and prettier for over 30 years!” Located in the foothills of the Ozarks, Mary’s Liquor boasts the area’s largest selection with over 1,500 spirits, 800 wines, and 400 beers. Our experienced staff with their extensive product knowledge will help you find your favorites. Mary’s supports local charities to raise both money and awareness. We are proud to be Cherokee County’s most philanthropic business (as a percentage of sales). Since 2010, we have donated over $57,000 to many of the area’s most worthy causes. OUR CHALLENGE Local competitors include six liquor stores within a 5 mile radius. The implementation and use of innovative technology enables our staff to create automated purchase orders for high volume product, efficiently create on-the-fly orders using distributor synced handhelds, maintain accurate inventories, and eliminate close dated product. These automations and our strategic pricing model allow us to maintain affordable product pricing while paying the highest liquor clerk wages. It has been our mission to eliminate shoplifting and prevent crime in Tahlequah’s local businesses. Pre-acquisition, Mary’s Liquor was plagued with shoplifting and employee theft equal to 16% of gross revenue. While this amount is excessive, it is not uncommon to see liquor stores with shrink (loss) equaling 5-10% of sales. Mary’s loss prevention overhaul included the introduction of an in-house security system, 43 WAN cameras, 8-week storewide inventory reviews, employee & customer rewards, social media “Wanted” postings, and an extensive 128 page employee manual. With the implementation of these tools Mary’s was able to reduce annual loss to only .04%. To put this in perspective, Walmart allows their managers 1.0% annually. OUR SUCCESS In addition to loss prevention, Mary’s doubled sales in the five years following acquisition through improved employee training, marketing, and the development of a social mission.
