Description
Information
In the picturesque setting of Carlisle, UK, a textile legacy was born in 1912. William Linton, a visionary Scotsman, founded Linton Tweeds Mill, nestled near the Scottish border and the enchanting Lake District. What began as a modest venture soon bloomed into a global phenomenon. William Linton befriended Captain Molyneux, a Parisian couturier, in the 1920s. Through this connection, Linton's fabrics found their way into the world of high fashion. The highlight of this partnership was the enduring relationship forged with the iconic Coco Chanel, who became Linton's most esteemed customer. In time, the name 'Linton' became synonymous with excellence, gracing the Paris catwalks and attracting American fashion enthusiasts eager to replicate Parisian couture using authentic Linton fabrics. In 1969, Leslie Walker was appointed Managing Director, marking a transformative era. He introduced exotic yarns, invested in advanced machinery, and expanded colour options. Innovative marketing strategies opened new markets, while a dedicated team upheld Linton's reputation for high-quality fabrics. In 2010, Linton Tweeds brought their exquisite fabrics to a global audience through an B2C ecommerce website, allowing everyone access to Linton's couture tweeds. In 2021, Ross and Duncan Walker, took over as joint Managing Directors. In their short tenure, they have turned their focus to sustainability and invested in eco-friendly machinery, while continuing to expand on both Linton’s direct and business customers. Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to work with the world’s largest fashion houses and brands, turning the textile dreams into realities. Some of the amazing brands we have been fortunate to work with include Dior, Burberry, YSL, Marc Jacobs, Jaeger, Alexander McQueen, Michael Kors, and Balmain. Today, Linton Tweeds thrives, embracing challenges and opportunities alike. Our enduring legacy evolves as we invest in our mill, staff, and sustainability.
