Information
Liga Azteca de Basketball LLC was founded in Chicago in the summer of 1974. The league started with only four teams, playing games at Humboldt Park, a Puerto Rican community of Chicago. At this time, the presidents of the league were two professors from Mexico. The league quickly grew from four to 18 teams that same summer. Since summer was ending, the league began playing in an inside gym in order to play year round. In 1984, the two professors left Liga Azteca de Basketball LLC in the hands of Francisco Marron Sr., who became the new president. MarrĂ³n successfully managed and grew the league for 29 years. The league went from a small one that only allowed players of Hispanic origin to join, to a large league that permits players of all nationalities, thus making it a diverse basketball league. In 2013, Francisco Marron, Sr. passed management of Liga Azteca de Basketball LLC to his son, Frankie Marron, the current President. Frankie has always been intimately involved with managing the league and continues his work, with his father as Vice President. The league has been active and continually growing for over 40 years.
