Ishtar Iraq Film Production was established in 2017 by young Iraqi women as a company for the production and distribution of independent films in Iraq and the Arab World. Ishtar aims to support, encourage and promote Iraqi and Arab cinema talents within the country, the Middle East region and worldwide and to win and hold a notable place among the leading production companies on a global level. In 2019, a new office in Amman was opened to serve as a link between the film industry in the Middle East and the rest of the world. With the offices in Baghdad and Amman, the company is well-positioned to collaborate with emerging talent and established industry leaders. Ishtar provides services throughout all filmmaking stages (development, pre-production, production, post-production and distribution) for short, feature, fiction, documentary and animation films. These include fundraising, budget managing, crew hiring, logistics, finding locations, distributing, marketing and others. Ishtar’s success in physical film production and financing is built on the extensive background of its team in business administration, marketing, cinema, media art and social policy and also on the company’s ethical approach to filmmaking and its creative and technical choices based on social and fiscal responsibility. Ishtar’s development slate reveals a range of cultural and social themes in the Arab World through documentaries and original stories that reflect contemporary human experiences across the Middle East.
