Description
Information
The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) is an international association of nonprofit organizations that support, promote and produce investigative journalism. GIJN holds conferences, conducts trainings, provides resources and consulting and encourages the creation of similar nonprofit groups. It was founded in 2003 when more than 300 journalists from around the world gathered for the second Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Copenhagen. Since then it has grown to 173 member organizations in 75 countries. Every two years, GIJN holds the Global Investigative Journalism Conference, which has brought together more than 5,000 journalists from 120 countries since 2001. In 2019, our eleventh global conference will be held in Hamburg, Germany, in partnership with Netzwerk Recherche and the Interlink Academy. GIJN also holds a biennial Asian Investigative Journalism Conference, and its member organizations sponsor regional conferences, such as the Arab Investigative Journalism Conference and COLPIN. GIJN runs a busy Help Desk, which since 2012 has responded to over 6,000 requests for assistance from journalists around the world. The GIJN Resource Center also indexes hundreds of tip sheets, how-to stories and videos. Every day, our social media feeds carry the latest tips and tools to journalists worldwide in English, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. GIJN is a registered U.S. nonprofit corporation, which receives grants from such donors as the Adessium, Ford, Oak and Open Society foundations, as well as donations from individuals. These funds support our work training and networking the world's investigative journalists to report and collaborate on corruption, lack of accountability and abuses of power.
