Established in 1876 by George Henry Bass of Wilton, Maine, G.H.BASS began with a man on a simple mission: "to make the best possible shoe for the purpose for which it was intended." Geroge Henry had a rare ability to anticipate his clients' specific needs and perfectly answer them through the design of his shoes. This not only became the basis of his commercial success, it set G.H.BASS on a trajectory that would continuously shape culture and give birth to timeless fashion icons. In 1936, G.H.BASS put a stylish spin on a Norwegian farm shoe designed for "loafing in the field," and playfully dubbed them Weejuns® - introducing the world's first penny loafer. From the Oval Office to Hollywood, from preppy students to fashion innovators, throughout the 20th century, Weejuns® remained a favorite with many diverse style tribes across the world.
