Information
Hailed as "The New Yorker's Nutritionist," Lauren Slayton, M.S., R.D., is the founder of Foodtrainers and the author of the book The Little Book of Thin (Perigee 2014). With a global client list from Miami to Mumbai, Foodtrainers has, over the last two decades, helped 1,000 people lose over 20,000 lbs - the equivalent of ten New York City taxi cabs. Slayton received her undergraduate degree from Tulane University, where she graduated cum laude with honors in Sociology. It was here, amidst party central, that she first realized the challenge of balancing work and play; health and indulgence. Slayton completed her master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition at New York University. Prior to launching Foodtrainers in 2001, Slayton worked at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt’s obesity research unit and developed a proprietary nutrition program for the Equinox fitness clubs. Foodtrainers has been featured in (or on): The New York Times, CNN, The TODAY Show, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar, Oprah Magazine, The Daily Show, CBS News and Good Morning America. She has also contributed to or partnered with many platforms and companies, including FitBit, The Huffington Post and Juice Generation. The Foodtrainers podcast, which reaches hundreds of thousands of people each year, was recently named one of the 8 Best Health and Wellness Podcasts by Entrepreneur Magazine, who raved that Slayton is: “blunt, no nonsense, brilliant and very enlightening.” The Foodtrainers online shop helps thousands of customers source nutritional items daily, including Bobbi Brown, who calls the shop her own personal “curated grocery list." Slayton lives in New York City with her husband Marc, sons Myles and Weston, Boston terriers Bronco and Basil and her beloved Vitamix.
