Why this name? These are all good questions so let's answer them one at a time. EQUUS is the ancient Latin name for the Horse. According to the dictionary the pronunciation is [ˈɛ.kʷʊs] but for us mere mortals, we just say it like EK-WUS. So what is the link between horses and computers you ask? Well for centuries the Horse has been seen as a symbol of prestige, and measurement of power and - until recently - an indispensable creature to complete work.
