Debrecen International Airport

Debrecen Airport was opened to international traffic in 2001. In 2004, as the first regional airport in Hungary, it was declared as an international airport with the status of a permanent border crossing and customs route, this way becoming equal to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport on authority level. Debrecen Intenational Airport has an on-site permanent immigration office, customs, police and national security service, enabling aircrafts to land any time of the day and year at the airport. At the moment mainly charter flights are operated but regular flights to Western European hubs are also planned to be introduced in the near future. In addition to passenger transport, regular cargo services are available, thanks to the Cargo and Logistic Base currently being developed by the XANGA Group. In 2011 XANGA acquired majority shares in Airport Debrecen Ltd, the company having the licence to operate Debrecen International Airport for 75+25 years. XANGA’s aim is to develop the infrastructure and the services of the airport so that it can become one of the most prominent but the most competitive regional international airport within the Schengen Zone in the European Union. Total adequacy to the Schengen requirements The division between the inside and outside Shengen flights without time limit has been realised. The handling of 2 arriving and 2 departing airplanes with 180 seats at the same time has become possible.
