The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens is a Quasi-International Organization co-founded by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Austrian President Heinz Fischer in January 2018. The Centre is located in Vienna, Austria and has its affiliated offices in Seoul, South Korea, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and in New York, the US.
We envision a world in which all women and youth are empowered to thrive as global citizens and leaders. We picture a world based on universal respect for human rights, regardless of age, gender, identity, religion, and nationality and where sustainable development is achieved through shared responsibility, understanding, and empathy.
The Centre uses its independence, network and expertise to empower women and youth worldwide. We believe in the instruments of leadership and mediation for promoting peace, advocacy and participation for empowerment, and education for engagement of global citizens. Working both publicly and through informal diplomacy, the Centre will engage with leaders, young people, academia, international organizations and civil society at all levels on global citizenship.
