Bali Animal Welfare Association

BAWA is a nonprofit organisation based in Indonesia which works every day to improve the lives of all animals in Bali and beyond. A key focus is the indigenous Bali dog, a highly significant species which some scientists believe to be the oldest dog known to man and the most genetically pure. During 2013 BAWA responded to more than 7000 emergency calls, found loving homes for 732 animals, gave meals to 200,000 street dogs, provided medication and treatment to thousands of dogs and educated 28,200 students in animal welfare. BAWA educates and advocates for animal welfare laws to be upgraded and enforced in Indonesia. BAWA works against organised dogfighting; the shocking dog meat trade; cruel “animal markets” and other inhumanity to animals.
