Action Volunteers Africa (AVA)

Action Volunteers Africa (AVA) is a registered NPO that offers South African unemployed Youth between the ages of 18 - 15 to get work experience as a Volunteer. The objective for them is to get the necessary confidence, experience, skills and network to find a real job afterwards. With a success rate of more than 90% this is a real Win-Win for both Volunteers as well as the NGOs that make use of these volunteers. The real winner however is the South African tax payer and society at large, as AVA has a proven track record combatting youth unemployment in South Africa, wich is currently at approx. 70%. AVA has proven to really work and therefore we can honestly claim we are: "Proving Volunteering Works". Historically the following programmes are run by AVA: 1. eNGine for jObs (NGO), the core AVA founding programme. 2. YearBeyond (YeBo) 3. LiteraSEA (co-op Shine, Edupig and AVA, funded by The Learning Trust) 4. IETI (ceased to exist for time being) All programmes are products/services from AVA, and should in essence have no influence on its strategic intent or directions, that are driven by three simple facts. 1. South African Youth unemployment is spiralling out of control. 2. Min. 60% of people get their first job through someone they know. Networks are crucial 3. AVA has a proven track record providing equal opportunity access to job market. The above three simple facts are the root essence of AVA and determine our Vision, Mission and strategy. Based on the history, the facts and the proven success of AVA the Vision remains clear and simple. Our Mission, Values and everything we do, is based on this. Vision: Realizing a South Africa in which every young person gets the opportunity to work on our brighter future. Mission: It is AVA’s mission to equip our youth with the confidence, skills and network needed to realize our Vision, by offering Volunteering opportunities as a key to unlock their future potential.
